General Chat & Help and Support / gag.. anomoly.. maybe a bug?
« on: September 15, 2007, 10:09:47 PM »
I usually gag all of my players to prevent ping issues when everyone wants to talk a lot.. which isn't a huge deal because I offer ventrilo service to my users which runs on a different server.

Here is what happened..

I did !gag <all>

Player was still able to speak over his microphone?!

I tried to gag him individually.

Still.. didn't work.. he could talk still.

I thought maybe it was the user group he was in.. so I demoted one of my members to test that theory.. nope...

No one else could talk.. so it wasn't a broken command.. just didn't work on that one guy..

The echo said it was gaggin him... I have no idea why he could still talk.

Anyone seen this before? or know what causes it?

I'm running the current SVN release on my dedicated server, and I don't notice any bugs at all. Did you're other admin have access through the users.txt file and you had access through the file created by ULX? or the other way around? If you do a clean install with no admins in the users.txt file that garry created, then yes.. your user.txt file created by ULX is going to get overwritten and you'll lose all your users.

The difference between a Dedicated server and a listen server:

Dedicated Server: A server that runs seperately from your game.. usually on a seperate machine alltogether. This is a much more stable option for hosting games with larger numbers or servers that should stay online a long time.

Listen Server: A server that starts when you click "Host Game" from within your game. This server runs the same as your game is your computer has to process teh server and your game simultaneously. Good for playing with a friend or hosting a server while you play, however this server shuts down when you stop playing and is not very stable for having a lot of people or running for a lengthy time.

The default path looks something like this...

C:\Program Files\Steam\Steamapps\yourusername\garrysmod\garrysmod
yes.. 2 garrysmod folders.. your game files are in teh second one..

You install ULX and ULib in C:\Program Files\Steam\Steamapps\yourusername\garrysmod\garrysmod\addons for a listen server. For help with a dedicated server, I suggest finding a tutorial as these can be prety hard to set up as SRCDS doesn't come ready to host Garry's Mod out of the box.

edit.. sometimes the ULysses team gets tired of answering the same questions over and over.. im sure there is a thread on this topic somewhere, next time maybe you should try to search the forums for your answers before making a post. I'm bored and feeling a little helpful today =)

General Chat & Help and Support / Re: Downloading Maps
« on: September 01, 2007, 11:27:41 AM »
yeah.. this is how I set it up... seeing as I have a seperate server for my website, I just threw the maps there. Also for some reason with sv_allowdownload and sv_allowupload set to 1.. my server still wont allow maps to be downloaded. it gets the files associated with the maps.. but not the maps themselves.. of course with the sv_downloadurl set.. it works fine.

Thanks again guys.

Thanks a LOT guys.. One of my team members is making a custom map for us which shouldnt be too large a file size, but we didn't want to have to defer people to a website to get the map. Thanks again.

hey guys.. it's my turn for a little help if you don't mind.. shouldn't be too hard..

ulx addForcedDownload...

can I use this command in my server.ini to allow users to download maps from my server if they dont have it already?

like... ulx addForcedDownload maps/whatever.mapextension

if this isn't possible with ulx, do you know how it is? Ive looked around on Google.. and I cant find any solutions. I know it is possible, because like with Counterstrike.. or whatever, you can get the maps from them..

Thanks a lot guys. =)

« on: August 31, 2007, 01:45:23 PM »
sorry for bumping an old thread, but I do think it is worth mentioning.

Where ulx cexec <name> <command> is blocked...

!cexec <name> <command> in chat is not blocked. You could do !cexec Tony "ulx motd" and it would open the MOTD on his screen.

<I prefer ulx motd when running it on others because "say !motd" makes them say it and 'ulx motd' silently opens it on their screen>

edit... downfall of this.. obviously... is that you cant do this from a DediConsole.. you have to be in game.

General Chat & Help and Support / Re: File Formatting.
« on: August 31, 2007, 09:11:06 AM »
Thankyou!!!

This program works fine with the files and they don't lose their formatting.

Edit.

Whoever it is MUCH more managable... opening up the user.txt file with ConTEXT gives me a format like this..
Quote
"[llk] t3k"

{

   "deny"

   {

   }

   "type"   "steamid"

   "groups"

   {

      "member"

   }

   "id"   "STEAM_0:0:6192354"

   "pass"   ""

   "allow"

   {

   }
}

and for some reason if each line of the file is seperated like that, ULib freaks out and completely reformats the file to something like this...

Quote
"[llk] t3k"
"{"
"deny"
"{"
"}"
"type"   "steamid"
"groups"
"{"
"member"
"}"
"id"   "STEAM_0:0:6192354"
"pass"   ""
"allow"
"{"
"}"
"}"

but even so.. as long as I remove the extra lines of nothing from teh user.txt file before I reupload it, and I set a macro in ConTEXT to do it, ULib doesn't even know it was edited and everything seems to run fine.

Even so though.. I dunno if it's the way you set up ULib to parse the files or what, but it seems like it's a lot harder than it has to be =)

keep up the good work though guys. I like the new version. =)

just notepad.. however if I copy and paste it into anything else it goes directly into the goofy formatting.. I dont even have to save it. Its like... It has some weird formatting that just doesn't like to be saved. I dunno..  ???

Edit: I will upload a copy of my file so you can have it.. maybe its my computer.. maybe its the file.. maybe you can tell me!! =)

Here.. http://zakap.com/testcrap/users.txt
Right click it and go to Save File as.. or whatever it is for your OS. then once you have the file.. open it with notepad.. it looks fine.. but then SAVE it.. as anything.. even if you don't edit it and click save it will still go to teh new effed up formatting.

Then try and open it up in something else.. nothing seems to work... copy and paste it into wordpad from notepad.. it pasts with the crappy formatting.. Im soooo very confused.. and it takes a lot to confuse me with computers.. lol

okay.. I replied in the usergroup post with this.. but I thought it might be worth making a seperate thread for it so as to not distract the other thread from its intended purpose.

The user.txt and groups.txt files that ULX saves for you in data/ULib give me some really ackward formatting by default.. lets see...

Here is my User.txt file how it should be formatted.. this is also how it IS formatted if I dont try and edit it..

Quote
"saabnl"

{

   "deny"

   {

   }

   "type"   "steamid"

   "groups"

   {

      "admin"

   }

   "id"   "STEAM_0:1:8454402"

   "pass"   ""

   "allow"

   {

   }

}

"‡????‡ rar"

{

   "deny"

   {

   }

   "type"   "steamid"

   "groups"

   {

      "member"

   }

   "id"   "STEAM_0:1:15207260"

   "pass"   ""

   "allow"

   {

   }

}

THis is how it gets formatted when I try to save it or edit it.

"saabnl"    {    "deny"       {    }    "type"   "steamid"    "groups"       {       "admin"    }    "id"   "STEAM_0:1:8454402"    "pass"   ""    "allow"       {    } } "‡????‡ rar"    {    "deny"       {    }    "type"   "steamid"    "groups"       {       "member"    }    "id"   "STEAM_0:1:15207260"    "pass"   ""    "allow"       {    } }

I can go through line by line and reformat it every time.. but this takes ages and doesn't even gurentee that it will work. =-\.. any ideas?

I had this problem too.. It seemed like the SVN broke the origional user.txt file. If you delete it and re-add everyone, it will work fine.

However.. while we're talking about it.. If I try to edit the user.txt or the new groups.txt file in data/ULib when I save it it looses all formatting and wont read on the server.. any ideas?

Yeah, I use Propprotector. thanks a lot =)

It's my pleasure.. now GIVE ME THAT STOOL that lets you see the owner of a prop with Propsecure!!! lol.. please??!?!?!

This is your lucky day.. just copy and paste this...

Quote
"Users"
{
   //
   // This is your users file
   //
   // You can use this file to add people as admins on your server
   // Add them to the relevant section
   //
   // If you're a Lua coder you can add your own sections and use them
   // in your script by doing pl:IsUserGroup( "admin" ) etc
   //

   "superadmin"
   {
      "dastronic"         "STEAM_0:1:7099"
   }

   "admin"
   {

   }

}
OVER OVER OVER your current garrysmod/settings/user.txt

make sure you are doing this in your server's garrysbod/settings/user.txt not your clients filder.

PLEASE NOTE... you must change teh steam ID to yours. If you dont know how to find your steam ID.. go into a server and type status and your steam ID will be displayed.. this only works when you are connected to a multiplayer server, not single player.
