« on: October 05, 2007, 05:04:11 PM »
I cannot seem to get it to work, I need to know how to do it so I can be an admin on my server again.

I did everything on the readme, like I always do, and it did not work. It says Error unzipping: File extension 'dll' is not allowed. all the files are there but when I go into my server after restarting, it did not work

Believe it or not.. I had that problem with the dll file extension the MINUTE I read this post.. =)

I assume you are using some sort of web based file utility to unzip a folder you uploaded to your server.. I am using Wolfserver.com which uses Gamerail for their control panels.. and when I try to unzip ULIB I get that message.. apparently they dont allow you to use their WEB BASED software to upload .dll files for security reasons I suspect.. However the way you get around this is to..

REMOVE the .dll file from ULIB/lua/Modules from the ZIP folder BEFORE you upload it.. once its uploaded.. unzip it.. and it'll work fine.. NOW... once youve done this.. you'll need to use another form of FTP to upload the .dll file to your ULIB/LUA/Modules folder or ULIB wont work.. SmartFTP or CoreFTP are good easy to use FTP clients..

Also here is a note you should know.. You can NOT NOT NOT NOT NOT change/update/delete the .dll file while your server is running.. it will not let you because it's a file in use by the system. You'll need to shut down your server to remove/update this file and then start it when you are done.

I sincerely hope this helped.. and I wouldnt have know what you were talking about unless it hadn't happend to be a second ago =)

Yes, thank you zakap.
Without knowing the details of what he was trying to do, we'd not have known what was happening.
There are many (including us) who use hosted servers with control panels. I've not seen/heard this error with ours, it will help keep us on the lookout to help in the future.

Ok, I removed the file, but what do I do with smartFTP?

You need to find out how to FTP transfer files to your host.
SmartFTP is just one program used to transfer using the FTP method.

Once you've found out how to transfer using FTP to your host, place the file gm_ulib.dll that you removed from the zip before using the zip with the host control panel and put it in <server gmod/addons/ulib/lua/modules (using FTP transfer)

You may need to contact your host support pages for how to FTP connect to it.
