Prop Protection?
« on: January 06, 2008, 07:47:49 AM »
Hey, I just bought my first GMOD Server and this is the first GMod server for the host too.  :D ;D :o
I am having the same problem as a person before (People can move and remove other peoples props) in this forum and i checked my autorun folder and i have no scripts running. :'(
If someone could help me with this that would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance. 8)

In majority of the cases where people had prop protection stop working, it was because another mod caused conflicts.
What prop protect script are you running? What other mods are you running?

We know Simple Prop Protect works, as many of our forum members who host servers use it, including us.

[Edit] Moved topic. ULX/ULib will not affect prop ownership of any prop. Though some prop protection scripts override jail command, this shouldn't be posted in ULib/ULX support thread.

I don't have any scripts running.   :-X

Also, there is a green ring in the middle of the prop and no one can grab the prop anywhere else than there.
Ive had this happen in Single-Player but can't remember how i fixed it :-X
But i dont have any scripts or mods running, i just bought the server.
I will install ULX, PHX, and wiremod tonight to see if it makes a difference.

The green ring means that the models are not installed on teh server. Only you and other people with the particular models installed locally will be able to see them. These effects do not have physics and appear only as errors to people withouth them installed.

That is why other people can grab stuff. ULib and ULX don't include prop protection.
You can get one from Facepunch forums (or search Garrysmod.org, which many links from Facepunch link to)
Many of our users recommend SimplePropProtect. It's mostly compatible. Jay###some_numbers### just posted a file that supposedly fixes the jail escape issue too.
Search our forum for that fix.

Also, there is a green ring in the middle of the prop and no one can grab the prop anywhere else than there.

As Zakap mentions above, you need the models on the server. If you don't have the actual models, then only you and other players that have that same model can 'see' it, but not interact/physically touch it other than the green ring.

Besides Garry's mod, I recommend installing CounterStrike:Source, HL2MP (which I think gets installed along with Gmod), and DOD:Source.
See your hosts help for assistance on how to install those model/servers.

This is the host's first GMod server, he doesn't know how.

Does anyone think they can give me a quick run-thru on where to put the files for the mods? And what should i use to put ULX into my standalone server? Also could someone please tell/link me to instructions on how to give admins?

Those are the type of questions your host is supposed to answer. The last is in the ULX readme.
