Motd trouble

When ever i change my Motd in  the garrysmod/data/ulx directory it always changes back to default? any help please

Never edit addons files. I believe our readme states this.

motd.txt should be created/modified from the root gmod folder.

to me there is no orange box directory folder

Which version of Gmod are you running???
Though I guess it's possible, I've not seen a client or server installation of Gmod without an Orange Box folder in the past year or so.
Still, whatever folder your gmod is installed into, the folder before addons or data or settings or cfg, is your root gmod folder.

so the file should be at C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\<name>\garrysmod\garrysmod\motd.txt

If a dedicated, there _should_ be an orangebox folder, right?
Can anyone else shed light on this? I could have sworn hldsupdatetool installs an orangebox folder and puts garrysmod into that when installing a dedicated server.
In my dedicated server folders its <path I store hlds.exe>\orangebox\garrysmod\motd.txt

I think shows orange box instead of a username for servers. orangebox\garrysmod instead of <name>\garrysmod

Yep. Every dedicated server I've ever run has been;

(hlds.exe folder)/orangebox/garrysmod/etc...
