Gmod almost distroyed my computer...literraly!
« on: November 02, 2006, 05:15:08 PM »
Heres what happened.....I was playing gmod for a while and then it got late so I deicided to turn off my pc and go to sleep.
So I exited out of gmod, clicked shut down, turned off my monitor and put a sheet over my pc(I always put a sheet over it so it dosnt get dusty and to help protect it).

so what happened was my computer didnt turn off,so I woke up and I did'nt know it was on(because I had my ac on and its louder than my pc).So i turned my ac off and i was watching tv and I heard a load sound and I looked at my pc and I saw the light was on.

So I took off the sheet and my computer was VERY hot and the cpu fan is what was making the sound because its rpms went much higher to try to cool off the cpu.So then I turned on the monitor and guess what I saw on the screen.....a little window that said "This process failed to end Gmod"......I was SO ANGRY.So i clicked end now and then my pc turned off.All this because of that garry and his buggy mod!But its also my fault for not making sure my pc turned off before I put the sheet on it.

That actually typically happens. You have to manually end task programs it can't close. I turn off my computer by pressing the button on the PC personally. Some say it causes problems, but on the contrary, it seems I have more problems when I do it the proper way.  ???

(Computer takes ages to boot when I do it properly for some reason, but using the button pretty much guarantees shut down)

The_fool,
I don't blame Garry as much as I do Steam/Valve
Lately, over the past month I'd guestimate, if I've run Steam and then use the 'Shut down' button to turn off my computer...it will power down the hard drives, power down the video card, but NOT the CPU/FANS/Power supply.
If I don't run Steam, I don't have this problem.
If I've run Steam, but have shut it down at least 3-4 minutes before using "Shut down" on the pc...its a 50/50 chance of whether it properly powers off or not.
