Help? ULX virus?
« on: September 07, 2011, 06:15:47 PM »
My friend got ULX, and something popped up in-game, does ULX have a virus or what?

Umm... you're going to have be a little more specific than that. For example, Wire Mod frequently gives clients pop ups.

To directly answer your question, ULX has no unsolicited pop ups excluding the MOTD.

Most definitely.

What you're seeing is probably the MOTD. Does it appear right when you spawn and have a template format?

Well, he said a website popped up in the middle of a game, and he thinks ULX gave him a virus and fried his CPU, because soon after he uninstalled ULX, his CPU crashed... Should i uninstall ULX, or was it something else, cause I've had ULX for about a year now, and nothings happened to my CPU. And I'm not sure if he had Wire...

I wouldn't worry. It's not even possible for a lua script to do something like that. Sounds like your friend probably just had a run of bad luck.

I suppose it is possible for a compromised MOTD to load a malicious page exploiting javascript...

99.9% of the time where ULX is blamed, its another exploited app/mod using ULX to make it easier on them to exploit, not actually an exploit in ULX itself.
By no means are we saying we for 100% do not have a possible exploit in ULX, we're just 99.9 percent sure we don't, and 99.9 percent of the time find fault in another mod that uses our great easy to use interface.

As for frying CPUs..nah..we like our eggs poached.

OK, thanks for the help, I told him it wasn't ULX but he insists it was, I was just making sure it wasn't, and I shouldnt uninstall, because I just got my dedicated server working, and I really need ULX for it. Thanks!
