Enlistment to the Ulysses Team?
« on: September 16, 2012, 01:10:54 AM »
I wanted to ask this question for quite some time in fact I remember asking it on this forum once before and getting a clear reply, how ever I can not find my old post on the forums, may be I asked some one from ULX directly. Any way my question was if I could join the ULX team, the answer I got was, "You can if you can find some thing that you can do for us.", so as you have seen I have tried to be active on the forums (allot more back then, then now), and I have been learning lua, and web design as well as image editing and creation. So now I have a new more specific question.

How would I join the ULX team?
Where would I apply?
Is it even possible to join?
What would I need to do, to join ULX?

PS.
I am sure many people are wondering atleast where they can apply.
Also sorry for not formatting my post to make it look nice.
I cry every time I see that I am not a respected member of this community.

I think by "You can if you find something you can do for us" means more along the lines of coming up with a major addition that they accept and you will maintain it. SticklyMan was added to the team when he decided to create XGUI and the team decided that they wanted to make that an addition to the code base.

As for being active and learning LUA. Look at me. I've been active (for the most part) for almost 8 years now and have contributed code that has actually been added to the main base of ULib/ULX, yet here I am too. I may have a pretty blue(?) name but that doesn't really mean anything.

They're not looking for people to help them with what they're working on.. You'll need to find something that you can make your own.

Don't let your knowledge (or lack there of) of LUA deter you though... I was going over old posts for fun (mostly boredom) the other day and I found some posts where I actually was helping Stickly while he was learning LUA.. and look.. the pupil has far surpassed the teacher. :P

We all have our specialties. Mine just happens to be Gamemodes.. which these guys have no use for. :P

Please send $500,000 US, large bills, non-sequenced, to each member (there are 5, 2 are pretty much silent (once a team member, team member for life (with rare exceptions))).
I joke, of course.

There really isn't an application. As with most teams/groups within Gmod, exceptionally outstanding, continued, work/help/project/<something>, will stand out on there own merit.
Those who stand out, in a good way, are rarely sometimes asked to become part of this direct team.
If we see value at a time another member is needed, those we feel are trustworthy, fit a current need, and believe would make a good addition to the team, we ask them.
I, we, recognize the fact that you want to be a direct member.
Asking can actually be a detriment.
Megiddo, and therefore we, are extremely selective, about who he trusts within his inner circle.
And with good reasons - a team he worked with previous to Ulysses in the Gmod v8 world all but became malicious exploiters tool - something he never wanted or intended.
He shared his knowledge and ideas with those who shouldn't have had it.

We appreciate all you do here (at least, I know I do) within the community, and hope you continue to contribute, even if not holding the "Team Ulysses" moniker.

They're not looking for people to help them

Means a LOT. Trust is hard earned here. :)
You have ours implicitly. I feel there is much more in store for you padawan, once you're no longer under current contract.

As for help, we're always seeking help (but, mental doesn't count!)
We appreciate all help offered.

JamminR's pretty much spot on. We've had some particularly bad team members in the past, so we're very picky.

I have, however, pointed out a few ways that you can help and show that you would be a valuable addition to the team. Just don't do these things expecting that if you do them, you'll be a team member. Of course, anything you do for us is always credited appropriately.

@Mr P:
JamminR is wise beyond his years... :)

Also, the pretty blue does count for something. You're let into our inner circle discussions of how Ulysses underpins all life in the universe.

JamminR's pretty much spot on.

I knew it. I KNEW I over paid. Finally baited out the truth.
Sheesh. No refunds, indeed.
