URadio -- Let your users listen to streaming radio
« on: January 03, 2007, 06:32:16 PM »
URadio is not currently working. If you want radio in game you can create a page to use with Umotd.

You absolutely must have gm_motd for this to work (But doesn't require ULib)

This simple script will let your users listen to streaming radio via the motd in your server. All they need to do is say "!radio" and they'll be presented with a list of stations to pick from. (You can edit this list in cl_radio.lua).

Edit (spbogie): currently doesn't work

I haven't yet looked, so will just ask the question...will it do Shoutcast streams (mp3)? Or just Windows media streams?

I love Shoutcast. Even if some of my favorite US stations had to go to advertising to support the $#()#)($# RIAA fees.

The RIAA, they're so laughable, did you hear they wanted to shut down the internet because it was hosting illegal music, you can't even shut down the internet, nobody clogs my tubes.

Really? I heard that they're designing these plunger like stoppers that could permanantly clog our tubes.

Guys, I didn't mean to pull you off topic. This is the releases forum.
Though the URadio addon hasn't worked in some time since Garry did a Gmod VGUI update, lets keep the posts related to URadio.
Perhaps one day Megiddo will find time to re-release with a fix. (doubtful)
Or, I'll get really bored and start poking around in it myself. (you never know)

Hey, I posted a workaround on the FP forums a while ago. Well I added a quick little one line fix to the Umotd init file to make radio easily accessible.
Just add
Code: [Select]
                    ["radio"] = "radio.txt",to
Code: Text
  1. Umotd_command_files = {
  2.                     ["motd"] = "motd.txt",
  3.                     ["rules"] = "rules.txt",
  4.                     ["helpme"] = "help.txt",
  5.                     ["info"] = "info_template.txt",
  6.                       }
You can download it here if you don't know what your doing.  Just replace the old Umotd_init in lua\ULib\modules.

Then make a radio.txt file in the data\Ulib\Umotd\ folder.  Again, if you don't know what your doing or need a template you can use mine, and change it as you see fit.

When you're done just type !radio to open up the list of radio stations.  Typing it again should stop any station playing.

Thanks Lore.
I had considered doing this to Umotd in a future version and had asked Meg if he minded.
One drawback is that if you use this method to bring up a radio selection list (or any other info/motd screen), it cancels the currently playing music.
Megiddo's was nice, as it used a VGUI selection before loading html.

3zzy,
 Though I'm sure it works great in IE7, please make sure it works in Steam.
Steam's HTML isn't full featured like a normal browser, even though it uses IE as its engine.

You can use ULX or Umotd to test in GM10.

I can't get my radio to work. It will show the menu, but when I click a station nothing shows or and I don't hear anything. I've gotten the gm_motd. I've only changed the station to sourcetunes. The most I've seen was a motd popup seconds later then disappear and nothing. Any help, please?

Taco, URadio is currently not working, you can use Umotd as mentioned by Lord T above for now.

Oh, ok. Also, one more problem with motd. It won't show. I have ULX, so the motd.txt is in my Gmod directory. I got the motd mentioned in the first post and nothing. Any suggestions?
