CoderHire: Closing the open source
« on: December 26, 2013, 01:44:08 PM »
http://coderhire.com/

As soon as I saw coderhire.com I have had a bad feeling about it I know its a way for coders to display their code and make money by selling stuff, how ever I can't help but get this strange feeling of disgust.

I always imagined community based addons to be more of a group effort where any one can contribute and tweak as they wish but by selling scripts it feels like CoderHire is trying to make the openness of GLua trivial.

Its hard to explain but in a way it just feels plain wrong.
I cry every time I see that I am not a respected member of this community.

It's not wrong at all..

Do you use Microsoft Windows or ubuntu linux?
Both are Operating Systems. One you pay for, the other is free.

If someone spends time and effort on something that they make and wishes to be compensated for it, there is no issues with that in my opinion.

I have bought several addons from coderhire and they have really improved my servers. The coders spent their time and effort to make these and I think it is right they sell them. They also spend extra time updating and improving their code and should be compensated. I paid one coder more for his code than he was asking because I thought it was worth more. Fair is fair.
