Prevent Lua Hackers?
« on: February 20, 2014, 03:52:49 PM »
For the past 2 days now someone has been going on my server and causing a mess. Removing everyone from my groups, rewritting my banlists, banning me from my own server, unbinding everyone's keys, deleting my ULX logs, etc. And I think he caused my internet to go down for a bit as well. Even if I try banning his steamid, he somehow comes in with a completely new one (That or there's a group of people doing this), I ended up banning 5 id's in an hours.

Is there anyway I can stop this from happening?

There are a bunch of anti cheats out there for Gmod, some are free, and some cost money. Try looking around for people with private anti-cheats and asking very nicely if you could get a copy. You can also purchase this... http://coderhire.com/browse/script/456/quack-anti-cheat (or you can get it for free *cough* leak.sx *cough*) I know it gets quite a bit of hate, but its pretty decent.

Also make sure that your RCON password is not in your server.cfg but in your command line. You could also not use RCON and just use some thing else.

Also you could do what the Germans did way back with their encryption and use a different password based on the day of the week and the time of that day, and keep the passwords only to your self.
I cry every time I see that I am not a respected member of this community.

Are you using MySQL?

Did you change your RCON password?

@luaten

QAC is one of the few addons I have to say NEVER to just dl. It updates rather frequently and with something like an anticheat updates are kind of important.

that being said, It was totally worth $6 and has banned dozens of people from my servers for having cheats :D (plus I lucked out and got the file stealer addon before it was removed)

The problem with public anticheats is that cheats can be built around them.

And those anti-cheats can be built around those work-around cheats...

Only if those cheats are public.
aaaand we've come full circle.

yay!
My opinion is that it isn't very common to get hackers that actually know what they are doing, it's mostly script kiddies that just found stuff online. And they're stupid about it so it catches most people.
