No. Just, no, no it wouldn't.
There have been several science-fiction, for now, stories of just how bad for humanity self-writing code can become.
Things that weren't supposed to become sentient always seem to become that way, and then inevitably create copies of themselves, and then the world as we know it ends.
Smart people long before us have thought of this issue...we should heed their warnings.

I'm waiting for those sentient microwaves/toasters.
Who WOULDN'T want the apocalypse to result from intelligent toasting products. I guess you could say we'd be toast.... Anyone? No? Oh...

My personal favorite is Turry, the robot that writes hand-written letters, and in its quest to improve its letter-writing abilities it destroys earth and all life on it.
