I'm horrible at mixing good trance/techno (I've tried, even with 'easy' programs).
However, I might even be able to make some decent stuff with this.
http://www.dump.com/2011/05/30/futuristic-dj-desk-video/
Obtained via wimp.com ... I love that sight. Easy to spend hours there watching fun 'no youtube crapish' video.
Not saying all of youtube is bad, just, well, too much of it.
-
thats pretty crazy, its like a new skool synth mixed with some kind of sequencer.
Wonder how you program different drum beats though? It seemed like that one block already contained a sequence?
-
Not quite ready for bed, though tired, relaxing doing normal 'surfing'. Not something I normally do. "Surf" that is.
I normally have a purpose when using a browser.
Went ahead and loaded the site listed in the credits.
Found more vids/performance event samples,etc.
Main product I think is being used in the OP vid is the Reactables Live (though I'm not sure)
http://www.reactable.com/products/live/
(Just 3 'event' vids. I only like the 3rd artist/dj, and they are all 'short')
-
Hmm, interesting concept. I don't think it'd be very efficient for actually producing music, but a fun toy to help get some ideas down!
http://www.reactable.com/products/live/order/
If the price didn't scare you away though, then the "Please note: Not Windows compatible." and the "Intel Macbook or Macbook Pro - Mac OS X 10.5 or higher" should. :P
-
Yes, its true, everything expensive but cool comes out for mac. ;D
-
Awesome! This is the second time I've seen position and orientation aware widget-things, and my only question is: why don't we have them already?
If the price didn't scare you away though, then the "Please note: Not Windows compatible." and the "Intel Macbook or Macbook Pro - Mac OS X 10.5 or higher" should. :P
I only wish I hadn't limited the "complain" button to 72 hours. How do I even know you? :(
-
why don't we have them already?
"€9.700,"
I'm betting it's due to IP patent laws. Too many conglomerates want to (over)charge for stuff like that.
Apple is only a small part of that 'we want to patent every cool touch/module widget item in the world' scenario.
Now, I'm not saying Apple/other companies don't have good ideas. I just hate the anti-hack/anti-share/pro-DRM/never-share-anything/keep-it-protected-too-long/don't-allow-others-to-innovate-by-using-too-broad-patent company culture we're currently a part of.
[/end rant]

I fully agree. I'm not a 'fan boy' in the least. The company and it's ideals, I really don't like. Unfortunately it's that same company that makes pretty nice things.
The one nice thing with apple products becoming more popular is it's forcing other companies step their game up, I look forward to the day another company starts making comparable products without compromise or excuses.

Again, thanks to wimp.com..found a new mashup I like.
The table he uses seems pretty nifty too. Digital version of ScreamTracker I used to mess with back in the 80s, especially when he goes to that sine wave synth mode.

Loved every second of that.
-
Oh, I saw that on the guy's facebook page as soon as he posted it to youtube. Madeon is pretty dang awesome for a 17-yr old!
-
He is good..but he needs to find a new beat. I listened to all his songs in a row and they get toooo repetitive, with exception of his latest 39 song mash.

And in case the devices shown in the previously posted link videos stop working due to (no electricity, end of technology as we know it, whatever would keep them from working), you can always fall back on real instruments.

I had to laugh.
I have a (whopping) 33gb SCSI drive I've been working on taking apart from an old 90s era server at work.
Seeing this reminded me of it, and a fun idea to do with it. :)

Haha, that's awesome. Appears to be something someone did at their work though (slackers)!

I watched that about 5 times in a row right now ;D
ps. Hello again everyone! Sorry it's been so long! I've been very busy lately :-[

For you ANIME fans out there;
[Long]
So, during my morning coffee / surf the web / wait on sick wife to wake up and need something / enjoy few quiet peaceful moments of day after daily devotion, I checked on the artist Nick Bertke's latest projects. Most know him as Pogo. http://www.youtube.com/user/Fagottron
I find myself checking once every 2 or 3 months.
I can't say I'd be able to sit anywhere and listen to an entire album of his stuff, or even use it as background. but I LOVE the artistic ability he has.
I guess,. to be honest, I'm that way with a lot of various electronic music/remixes, etc.
While checking to see what latest "World remix" he's planning, (Tibet (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/663695822/pogo-presents-world-remix-tibet), by the way, he's already done New York and Johannesburg (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bs66ORnV5jU), I find an interesting anime remix done by another artist in similar style that he links to from his blog/main web site.
[TL:DR - what are you going on about??]
Pogo's artistic music (http://www.pogomix.net) style is awe inspiring imo. Check out his stuff on youtube. Support him on kickstart.
And you anime fans may like this artist that he linked to from his blog; Jeesh - Pure Etherium (http://www.pogomix.net/pure-etherium).
-
Jeesh's site seems to be down?
-
Jeesh's site seems to be down?
Pogomix.net actually, Pogo's site. I hope it's something technical, and not because of a DMCA due to Pogo's tendency to remix bits and clips of various movies into, uh, "music" for lack of a better word. I know Pixar encourages him, but he's used others. Well I midht add (imo of course)
Pogo's blog linked to someone else he inspired for several vids... Jeesh aka Joshua Kershaw.
Here's the actual vid Pogo's blog mentioned. http://vimeo.com/26301684 - Anime
Jeesh's style is heavily influenced by Pogo's style.

Ah, that brings back fond memories of a former roommate ranting about the impossibility of a tree flying through the sky. :)

Just 100% geeky cool Star Wars related.
http://www.wimp.com/floppydrives/
(It saddens me to just realize...Star Wars probably doesn't mean as much to you 'young' adults as it does me)
(Episodes 1,2,3 DON'T COUNT)

Few of you know I have music taste other than electronic/pop/hiphop
More of you probably care less.
I'd no idea anything existed like this.
Electronic big band.
http://www.wimp.com/electroswingmusic/
I like electronic.
Every once in a while, I'm in the mood for Glenn Miller.
The video clip seems to contain both. :)
More research to do. Too bad i must go to bed soon. :p
-
I think the best part about these geeky videos is the fact that they arn't being shown on youtube. Making them even more geeky. :P
so good haha

Actually, there's a more info link where the user submitted vids can add link information.
Some actually do start out at YT, and the YT link is added.
What I enjoy is the fact I don't have to wade through all the other 'stuff' that YT contains...Wimp (and dump) pick out the decent ones for me (mostly) :)
I then search for the specific YT user or vid, and browse to other sites they mention from there. It's how I found Pogo. His Gardyn track was posted on wimp.
Oh, btw, though the thread title was renamed JamminR's, if you find cool geek stuff, post it.
I figure one day Megiddo will say 'enough' and archive the post. :P
Please, do links, not actual embeds.
-
Wimp/Dump.com have several submitted BBC One 'wild Side' commercials they've shared over the years/months.
Laugh everytime I see one.

Some of my favs from this clip;
Brilliant! An Injury...YEAH..I'm so hardcore!
WAIT FOR IT...WAIT FOR IT....IT's coming up....NOW! (my favorite)
Keep doing it! It's so funny! OK Ok Ok...Picture the scene...one of us...walks into a bar..barman says "Why the long face?!!"
You'll have to watch the vid to truly enjoy those. :)
-
hahaha thats a good vid!
I like the one where that thing was jumping around haha

The Piano Guys have some really sweet videos, and I just had to post this one since it's been making rounds across the 'net. :P
-
Though fun, and I've seen the not-so-classical stuff like Cello Wars in various places including Wimp, for some reason, I'm just not big on it.
Don't get me wrong.. I grew up loving Star Wars as a kid, I just don't like the way they've done it.
I've always been impressed with other covers and classical duet arrangements they've done however.
-
Oh, and as some of you know and some don't, some may not care but I know some do, I am Christian.
Jesus is my Lord and Savior.
That being said, I don't watch sports, and until yesterday, had no idea who Tim Tebow was.
I found this video which I found entertaining - http://wimp.com/timtebow/
I then find out that not only has he made fans, he's made enemies and critics because he prays in public during games, or at least did once in a picture that's being spread/talked about everywhere.
I'm not interested in politics, but I thank God and Jesus that he prays in public.
I've not really researched to even know if he's praying to my Savior, which I hope he is.
One important fact here though.. I praise Tim for his conviction.
I am NOT offended if he's praying to a false god other than the one I know. (Though pray for him)
I'm TIRED of people playing 'politically correct' games..get over it. If you're Christian, great. God loves you.
If you're NOT Christian, then don't be offended that I am and openly admit it. I'm not that you might not be. My God still loves you and we both pray for you.
</end soapbox... praise Tim for his convictions ... enjoy fun video http://wimp.com/timtebow/ >

I agree, America is overly politically correct. One of the reasons for this, I think, is too many people get away with insane lawsuits, and it's just slowly crippling the country, no one can mind their own business anymore, everyones become so tender and get upset about things that don't even concern them, it's weird. How can people get so offended by ones beliefs, or their own personal actions that hurt/ involve no one else.
-
Now, on to real entertainment.
http://www.wimp.com/concretebuffer/
I still have tears in my eyes due to this one. I had to pause/rewind a few times I was laughing so hard I missed some bits.
Oh, and it figures.
I see this 5 minutes later.
http://www.wimp.com/laughtercontagious/
Try not to...I dare you, try not to laugh, especially after watching the first vid.

haha that first one is sooo funny!
Also the second one, the guy who gets on, I'm pretty sure he's just thinking everyone's laughing at him! :P hahaha

Also, their Youtube channel has some fun stuff.
Found this fun and quirky and artisticly well done.

I've always been amazed at the talent audio artists have at mixing music.
Even using helpful applications (many exist, I know, I've looked at some).
I like even more when an audio artist can go visual...and the following explains it visually very well.
http://www.dump.com/2012/01/22/a-visualization-of-the-complexity-of-electronic-music-video/

In case anyone looking over this thread didn't know, I believe dump.com to be a 'related' site to wimp.com.
Wimp.com often includes framed pages of dump.com videos.
[personal]
Juggling has always amazed me.
Before loss of much of my peripheral vision, I'd taught myself to juggle while in the clown ministry of my Church.
Two other jugglers and I would do various pass juggles/hand off juggles, and of course, just fun interesting tricks.
Mostly involving round objects. Though they learned clubs/pins, I never got the large objects, but was good with the small round items.
(Sorry, no chainsaws or knives here)
[/end personal]
I've seen many various "contact" Jugglers. Contact juggling involves contact with spheres/pens/any item through hand/body contact.
I love a good act of contact juggling.
Though I'm sure there's some of this guy's act missing from the video, he does a good job of drawing a crowd, involving some of them in it.
Overall, good performance, in my opinion.
Enjoy. http://www.dump.com/2012/01/28/contact-juggling-video/
-
And now time for something completely different -
http://www.wimp.com/coolestmen/
-
The first time I saw contact juggling I was really amazed by it, this guy really had a good performance.
Also, instruments made out of random objects are always a good thing haha
-
Though I like many forms of electronica, I dislike DubStep; at least, when it has no accompaniment.
That is, if I don't see a GOOD dancer matching the music, or some other special effect to the music, I just don't appreciate it.
It requires a good counterpart.
I found a nice non-human counterpart.
Though the video is an edit, I feel it is artistically well done.
http://www.dump.com/2012/02/07/dubstep-with-an-empty-stadiums-lights-video/
Wouldn't it be cool if the high intensity lights they show could actually cycle that fast?
-
Though I like many forms of electronica, I dislike DubStep; at least, when it has no accompaniment.
It'll grow on you if you let it. I know it did for me
Nice vid!
-
Hey, just watched my last vid again...krooks (or anyone), see that bird towards the end?
I didn't catch it first 2-3 times I've watched the video.
~1:45, there's a bass beat ending...at the same time, a quick flash of a bird.
-
yeah I did notice that the first time, I thought it made a good end to the whole thing :)
-
Ha!
Because Piano cat just never fully impressed me as an artist.

Many of us have seen the Commodore 64 drives play the imperial march.
I just found more total geekdom;
http://www.dump.com/2012/02/25/pirates-of-the-caribbean-theme-played-on-8-floppy-drives-video/
I've actually used 8 inch floppies. (Showing my age here, but honestly, some of the systems I was helping admin was 15 years out of date)
Whopping 60k storage, iron oxide, cardboard sleeve...high tech!
EDIT -
I've stated before, I'm not big on dubstep music wihtout some major stepper doing dubstep to it.
This, I find extremely entertaining, funny haha.

My tastes are eclectic.
Occasionally, I like Big Band/Swing type music. I prefer it live over most of the 'studio' music I prefer. (I like studio recordings better than live in most cases)
Swing music, not so classic swing dance
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f4EWBxeBXL8
It's 5 years old, going viral.
There's a newer '5 years later' video....I don't like it as much.
Enjoy!

That was pretty good! Interesting take on on old style of dance, for sure.

Awesome funny music video to Madeon's original track. (wimp.com via dump.com)

Original, but ISP I use (Comcrap) seems to hate youtube and it kept stopping/buffering.
http://www.youtube.com/user/nathanjbarnatt#p/u/6/IxPbgnO81sQ
So, going back to Madeon's mashup, I also found someone that seems to have linked the sound samples MadeOn used to the video's they would have come from. FUN (and time consuming)

They're cool and all, geeky tech for DJs...but...I'm sorry...they just don't earn as much respect from me as a good turntable mixer.
Even though I only like dubstep as a performance medium (dance/watching someone mix it, not plain listening), someone who can do majority of it on turntables just helps me appreciate it more. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MXdVnDVjSL8

On safari, don't trust the fact you're in the top of a 15m high-bus to make you safe, something might want to use it as an elevated perch to look for food since not many trees exist.

I like a few various forms of 'electronic' music.
I'm not knowledgeable enough to tell you which kinds. (DrumNBass, GOA, Trance, Vocal Trance, Ambient, Techno, Industrial (does it seem like there's an 'industrial' type for every genre?), etc ...).
And even if I find one 'kind', I like some but not others.
Electronic is pretty eclectic for me. Though I can say I like most classic rock, I'm picky about most electronic.
While painting my office, wife and I selected a few Christian broadcasts from Shoutcast. (Sadly still owned by AOL).
One played a electronic vocal tune called Spiral by a Christian DJ named Andy Hunter.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JihFj2bjbHY
I'm quite inspired, and have started a search for more Christian electronic artists.
Does this mean I like other non-Christian artists less?
Would I delete their music files (as I saw one YT comment poster state)?
No.
It just means I appreciate the conviction of those artists who share my beliefs more.
EDIT UPDATE ~30 min later
Geez...this guy has been in lots of commercial stuff...I'd never realized.

Nice. Love the time-lapse.
I get time lapse, but I've never researched how the cameras get moved for vids like that.
I presume motorized slow-motion dolly/camera mount/tripod things.
-
I believe you presume correctly! The guy that shot the time-lapses used in BT's video has a few videos on his site that briefly show how it works, like this one:

Merry Christmas Eve everyone.
Apparently, ANYTHING can be jazzed/'muzak'ed.

Merry Christmas JamminR, and everyone at Ulysses ~!
-
Merry belated Christmas to you too, krooks! :)

As is usually the case for me, I don't find out the name of a DJ/band/whatever group of music I hear in passing and like until years later.
For 2-3 years, I'd occasionally see videos with techno-ish "swing/big band" music in them.
I like some big band / swing.
I like some electronic/techno.
What an awesome-ly fun combo.
http://www.wimp.com/fredginger/
Finally found out the name of most of the stuff I'd heard too (DJ Parov Stelar)

Great artistic video project.
Be careful once it reaches the football stadium at the end...right when you think the video is over, it gets louder.

That video makes me miss my undergraduate antics... :P

Life has really been busy for me lately.
So much so that I've not even had time to chill at night.
Well, I found a few minutes tonight, and found this that I enjoyed.

Check the channel, various other fun stuff too.
He mixes various styles of music, electronic media, mixes, all into the word 'art'.

Found this interesting.

Wow, 5 whole months since my last post here.
I've just not been doing my daily wimp site viewing, that, and guess I just haven't found anything inspirational.
First - close friends know, I'm not adventurous.
I admire those who are. I'd likely never have the spirit to do what this man did - even seeing all the awesome sights and views this man got to see, while at the same time doing charitable work.

I like Fur Elise.

Me too...

Admittedly, I'm a bit biased towards Aloe Blacc's original 'Wake me up' (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3JvM-fnpPCU), and absolutely love Avicii's remix of it (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3OFoeGaIw9E), which most of the vocals of the Rick Astley mashup of "Never going to give you up" are mixed with.

For years. I've used VLC (http://www.videolan.org/) to play media on my Windows, and when available, other OS machines so I don't have to worry about codec packs.
While searching for a way to save youtube videos with one click button push, I came across this wonderful playlist extension for VLC (http://addons.videolan.org/content/show.php/+Youtube+playlist?content=149909), which allows me to just copy/paste or drag and drop a youtube playlist into VLC, then move on to other sites/whatever else I might feel like doing. (I usually use audio playlists, not video, on YT)

That's pretty cool. While we're onto plugins, I found this Chrome extension (https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/streamus-beta/jbnkffmindojffecdhbbmekbmkkfpmjd) that works pretty similar to it.

Long time no post.
I've been enjoying wimp.com through Plex on my big screen TV.
Sitting here doing some side-work on the PC, found this.
http://www.wimp.com/catlaser/ (http://www.wimp.com/catlaser/)
Tortuous fun.
I've got 4. One obsessive and fast about chasing.
Maybe I'll attach it to his head some day and watch all of them.
-
Hah, that reminds me of my kitty! .. Except he was pretty lazy. He'd chase a laser for a little while before just plopping over and waiting for it to come to him lol.
And now to hijack your thread! If you enjoy epic Orchestral music, then you'll love this demo Thomas Bergersen put on his Facebook page:

I LOVE IT! :D
You can hear more of his work on his "Illusions" album (Highly recommend!), or check out anything put out by "Two Steps From Hel(l)", which he and another guy makes epic stuff like this for movie trailers and such. https://www.youtube.com/user/TwoStepsFromTheMusic (https://www.youtube.com/user/TwoStepsFromTheMusic)

I've never posted (or at least, search this thread didn't find 'wote' or 'walk') about one of my favorite Indie Youtube bands.
I say Indie because, originally, they mostly were. I say youtube because, well, much of the stuff they do just, imo, just doesn't translate well to straight audio only.
There are two big items to almost every WOTE video. 1) They do it all in one constant take, no cuts (even if edited for motion/speed later, no cuts) . 2) There's almost always "the bearded guy" doing something fun. (They like to toss instruments from off stage too)
Walk Off The Earth - https://www.youtube.com/user/walkofftheearth (https://www.youtube.com/user/walkofftheearth)
They do LOTS of covers. I was first introduced to them by a viral video of them playing Gotye's "Somebody that I used to know" on a huge guitar.
But, I enjoy much of their own stuff too.
Red hands - way they meant it. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1bt-FHaFVH8&index=32&list=UU9PEibgWOqZ-1I1JdxRmr6g)
Red Hands - Unedited (SERIOUSLY...THEY DID IT WITH NO CUTS) (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-OtOnZeQ9IM&index=31&list=UU9PEibgWOqZ-1I1JdxRmr6g)
Red Hands - Razudox remix (2 members do it) (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=apKRJx0oBOU&list=UU9PEibgWOqZ-1I1JdxRmr6g&index=15)

Someone PLEASE tell me artist/producer or title of the track used in the TrackMania2 Stadium trailer here.
http://store.steampowered.com/app/232910/ (http://store.steampowered.com/app/232910/)
JamminR does NOT dance.
This short track makes him want to get up and JAM as though he could.
Oh, and sidenote... I'm sad. Ubisoft (owns/produces/releases) Trackmania titles now.
Never again will I purchase any of TM games. (been some years since I had original)

Thanks!
Though I love the beat and rhythm, I guess the vocals do eventually wear on me.
I listened to some other Tantrum Desire stuff, and nothing made me want to move like that track did.
I'm picky about what EDM I like, even more picky once you start getting into all the million different styles of it, including DnB (and this supposedly is 'clownstep/jump-up' style of DnB).
It actually kinda made me want to jump-up.
Kinda, so, NO, no video.
EDIT - oh, just realized, two parts to the link you provided....guess I like the dubstep version of it better (but, even picky about dubstep too)
EDIT2 - I like this though! (not quite as much as Guided Rhythm though - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wet2Pz73MV0 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wet2Pz73MV0) )
-
As soon as I heard the music on that Trackmania2 trailer, I thought the voice sounded familiar.. I actually got Tantrum Desire - Reach (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yXRWRvRxgvg) after hearing it on a podcast I listen to frequently. :P But that's all I've heard from them.
While this isn't quite DnB, I do find this Mat Zo song quite groovy! :D Mat Zo - Get Down 2 Get Up (https://soundcloud.com/mat_zo/mat-zo-ft-the-knocks-get-down-2-get-up). Also, I highly highly highly highly recommend this album! Nigel Good - Nothing Out There (http://www.youredm.com/2014/05/02/nigel-good-nothing-album-review-rant/) This guy is pretty talented, and he put together quite a nice variety! "Something Out There" is the grooviest! :D
Okay I'm done, I promise- last time I did one of these.. well... you remember what happened (http://forums.ulyssesmod.net/index.php/topic,5587.msg25577.html#msg25577). :P

Haha Stickly, I never mind contributions made to expand my horizons (in any conversation, music, code, ...).
One part of the reason Ulysses is such a great team, and a great forum community, is that we are open to each others interests.
Besides, I never fully intended this thread to be ALL mine. Heck, would have locked it if so.
It's just a fun "stuff I found no-so-ordinary" link dump thread, which for whatever reason became mostly music related.

Ok, so I'm revisiting some various music tonight with my new headphones I got for Christmas.
Came across this - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t2vuVqgazoA (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t2vuVqgazoA)
I'm about to type something I've probably never typed before.
OMG! And, I don't mean that in blasphemy. God is great. He's placed many artist on this planet.
I'm not big on much dubstep, but, WOW the drops in this are mind numbing, mixed with a (though slower than the faster one I like) wonderful rhythm.
Merry Christmas!
I Love my new headphones.
-
Oooh, what headphones did you get? I got some Sennheiser PC350's about a year ago, coupled with a new Asus Xonar Xense soundcard... FLAC music sounds oh so very much clearer now :D
-
Audio-Technica ATH-M50x
Wired to a Pioneer VSX-816, which is wired to my PC from TosLink out (Razer Barracude AC1 running (hacked-in) latest Asus Xonar D2 drivers)
You should see the "Merry Christmas 2014" thread here in offtopic for all my other goodies I got.

Latest bass-dropping song that makes me want to dance.
Full length song gets a bit old after a while, but a shorter mix-mash-up I heard on the radio tonight was awesome and is first I'd heard of it.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h6ml72lR-bA (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h6ml72lR-bA)
It made my head almost explode from the hook and drop.
I'm starting to learn I love a good hook.

Have a thing, why don'cha?
This guy—Slyoh—just released his EP under the same name, and it's got some great tracks. He shot for an interesting style with this one—lively, and jumpy, and bouncy, and fun. It's pretty interesting to see what he did while pushing his boundaries.
I'd say he did a pretty good job. This track especially just makes me want to jam out, and I have no idea why (oh wait, yes I do).
(If anyone looks at his channel, yes, he is a brony music maker. However, his EP is lyricless, and non-pony-related.)
-
If you enjoy music that pushes boundaries, I really enjoy stuff from Haywyre- He has a free EP out you can download from bandcamp:
https://haywyre.bandcamp.com/album/two-fold-pt-1
Dichotomy is probably my favorite track- It's very bass-heavy and is a mix of Electronic/Dub with hints of Jazz (saxophone), and Middle-eastern scales. Sculpted has some fun vocoded vocals, plus more heavy bass! (Good headphones and/or subwoofer recommended). Doppleganger is definitely the Jazziest- it's all good stuff! :D
-
Between the two you've both presented, Haywyre "wins" for me.
Can't say I'd listen to either one with any regularity though. I'm moody. Some music I can handle most of the time, but, both of those I'd really have to be in the mood for.
And, for some reason, Slyph grates on my nerves rather quickly. Just my particular subjective tastes.
Stickly Man always has been more of a kindred spirit when it comes to our music tastes/moods I think. (Here's to hours of steam chat with a pink blanket and chinese leftovers that never fill you up!)
Some of Haywyre's glitch-ness and vocals reminds me slightly of Pogo's remixes (https://www.youtube.com/user/Fagottron) of audio/video from Disney and Sesame Street.
(OH WOW. I usually have to be in the mood for his stuff too, but right now, I LOVE his Sesame Street GROVER video)
Oh, another thing. Both of you probably were way too young to really have to deal with computers before the MP3 came along.
Before MP3, slightly before midi, there were trackers. Mods. Tracked songs that contained bits of sound samples in them.
Haywyre reminded me of "The Greynote", nice jazzy original composition by an online coder/musician with alias of "Necros"
It's zip attached to this post.
Also, Everytime I heard a song by slyph, they seemed to same to me, and reminded me of The Fiddler.
It's also zip attached.
(Now remember, these are from pre-CPUs-with-enough-power-to-decode-realtime-mp3 days 1995/96 -
Use VLC to play them. (I really don't know any other player right now in the modern world that would)
-
I like any music where the author showed any form of creativity while making it :P (So, that pretty much rules out majority of pop music.. Rap is generally iffy). Mmm, I want Chinese food now. And yes, Pogo definitely shows creativity- but I have to be in the right mood as well.
Pssh- I was playing with MIDI all of the time growing up :P Didn't learn about trackers till later, but Zyklus is big into Chiptune stuff, so I've gotten familiar with quite a lot of fun stuff. (We had a Commodore 64 growing up- that still has an impressive soundchip!) But yeah, Winamp will play most tracker tunes as well. In fact, based on quick testing, they sound better to me in Winamp than VLC (maybe VLC is just a little quieter). Hmm, seeking in VLC doesn't seem to update the tempo properly, as well. There's also MilkyTracker (http://milkytracker.org), a modern Tracker that runs fine in Windows, and lets you see all the cool note data and such. :)
My favorite tracker pieces are probably stuff by Virt (Jake Kaufman)- has some pretty funky stuff! Here's "Fruitbat":[IT] beek & virt - fruitbat (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1MJ4VQ_zt_4#) It sounds best on the old Impulse Tracker in DOS (hence the YouTube link), but you can find the .IT file out there. (http://plopbox.eu/index.php?mod_id=13333)
Bonus: Attached 'Classical Favorites II' from Virt. In essence, it's like video game versions of Classical pieces. Extra fun if you can recognize each piece! :D
-
Not to continue a conversation that could go on forever, but, VLC... though I use it still because I then don't really have to worry about downloading however many other codecs/players/whathaveyou and "it just works" for 99% of my needs... I've not been happy with it's video quality and some other things changed/removed, probably, since 1.x days.
As for winamp, used to LOVE it, then AOL bought it, and then it started trying to do everything and sufferred for it.
That, and it's open source and cross platform.
Does a decent job of one size fits all.
So, yeah, I use it still, not because it's best (and it USED to be on some things imo), but because it's simple.
-
Yeah.. Winamp 5 isn't terrible- you can disable a lot of the extra features. Especially now that AOL sold Winamp to another company- it will be interesting to see what happens. Either way, I still rely on Winamp for my media library management and to find those plugins to play just about any music file (in_vgm.dll for the genesis/NES/SNES/whathaveyou files, in_sidplay for the C64 stuff, and in_vgmstream.dll for the more modern .adx/.aax/.dtk streaming music formats for newer games), and I still use VLC for all video playing since it plays EVERYTHING and I never liked how Winamp integrated video playback.

Livaco, fun device. Stuff like that is what originally started this now years old thread.
Bytewave, post the original song without warning again and I'll ban you.
Remixes of it have been discussed previously in this thread (and, weren't really that bad)

Aww, but it was only in the spirit of the day, Jam.
... Unless that comment was too. This is why days like today confuse me.

Wow folks. Why didn't any of you tell me about PMJ? PostModern Jukebox.
I like most of their covers.
Stumbled across them looking for something totally not-related.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Cnm0tdkJEU (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Cnm0tdkJEU) - Thrift Shop
And, a nice electro-swing remix of it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bDlC9m1FDo4 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bDlC9m1FDo4)
I've always liked the song Thrift Shop. IMO, Macklemore has some good 'pop-rap' rhythms.
I've always liked 30s/40s/50s 'big band' swing and jazz.
PMJ just seems to combine much of what I like.

Lot's of Tesla synthesizers out there (think I've linked ot some in the past few years).

Almost 4 years since I last posted. My how time flies.
First, if you've all not seen the various versions of "Everything is a remix", remastered (remastered I think actually has new/corrected content), then I recommend going and seeing that on youtube or other sites.
Second - While in driving sims or other PC work that doesn't have it's own background music, I often play Pulsradio - hitparty. Pulsradio stations play various types of EDM. (Some i like, some i don't)
One song that keeps coming up in it's playlist is a song called Dreams by David Guetta & Morten. Neither of which I really know much about.
Each time I heard this song, I swear it sounded like something I'd heard before.
After hearing the song 3-4 times over a week or two, I decided to figure it out.
I then realized, it really reminded me of part of the music from what I consider one of the best 90s graphics demo compo releases, Future Crew's "Second Reality".
If you're still reading and care, listen to the underlying keys/kind of spacey music from ~3:57 to ~4:20
https://youtu.be/iw17c70uJes?t=238
(stop for time being at 4:20 - music changes)
Then, check out the Dreams music video from ~:0:17 to ~0:55
https://youtu.be/_QiKAN2LIuk?t=26
I'm not going to take the time to put them both in a mixer and see if exactly the same, but, man the Dreams buildup keeps bringing back the nostalgia of that 90s demo. (92-94 were good years for me in life, relatively speaking - so that helps too)
-
Time seems to fly differently for you, given October 2019 was only 3 years ago.
If I may share my own, I've been listening to this song non-stop: https://youtu.be/HPdHkHslFIU
