Title: .dll file is not allowed to upload to my dedicated server site
Post by: Mp6 on October 18, 2007, 05:39:30 PM
Because of this, I need to use a form of FTP, well, a friend told me that there is no possible way to do that. I need to get the .dll onto my server so ulx can work for me. Is there a way I can use ulx without the .dll?

ULX will work without it. "ulx cexec" just won't allow the commands that Garry has banned through lua con command.

Are you sure your host doesn't allow FTP? That would be detrimental to any hosting company in my opinion.
(I know I wouldn't buy hosting service from one that didn't)

f they truly don't allow ftp, can you rename files through your host control panel?
If so, try renaming the dll to .bin or something in the rar file, upload it, then try renaming it.

The .dll isn't used for ulx cexec jam, it's used for rcon and luarun.

Oops.
Fine. :) Mp6. replace 'cexec' in my previous post with 'rcon' and add 'ulx luarun'.
Though most could probably live without luarun, using ulx rcon is pretty handy.

WHAT IF....

you renamed the .dll to something else... like.. .txt?!? =-)

then once it's uploaded, you'd have to use your web panel to rename it back to .dll

I have no idea if this would work.. but maybe!  ;D :D ;D ??? :o

I'm curious who you have your hosting through, as I find it quite unusual that they would not have ftp access to server files.

I am using wolfservers, and part of it is that I have absolutly no clues on using any form of ftp, I have tried numerous tutorials and I cannot get it. I will try renaming the file to the .bsp

Also forgot to tell the problem without it, it does allow me to add myself as admin so I show up green, but in-game, I am not allowed to access any of the commands except !motd which is a real problem when it comes to minges.

I am using Wolf Servers as well.. they do Allow ftp.. your FTP address/Host IP is your server's IP minus the port.. so like.. mine is 208.06.30.38

Your Username is the same as you use to log into the Control Panel

and your password is the same you use to log into your control panel..

FTP Port 21

If you need a good FTP program, I recommend Core FTP.. it is one I found that works very welll with the WolfSErver FTP servers.

Hope this helps.. I have 2 servers with them and both have access to FTP.. if for some reason you still cant open a connection.. I suggest opening a ticket with them in their support.. the service might need to be restarted. happens every now and then.

Edit: To answer your second post.. your groups.txt file in Data/ULib might be corrupted or inaccurate.. try deleting that file and misc_registered.txt and then restart your server.. this will refresh those files to the current ULX standards.. when you join see if you have admin access.

Why cant you just zip the .dll file.  Go into your wolf server cpanel and use their upload feature?  Then once you upload it, unzip it while you are still in the file manager.

because while the file manager is unzipping it.. it checks the file extensions.. and it wont allow you to unzip it if it contains a .dll file

unfortunately the only way to do it if the renaming trick does not work, is to use FTP.. you'll just have to figure it out... =(
