Title: Question about cvar "motdfile"
Post by: Chris on February 10, 2008, 05:31:39 PM
Just a quick question, how do I get this command to give me a result? I've tried "ulx motdfile", and "motdfile" by itself in the console, all unrecognised commands...please bare in mind I'm still learning about running a dedicated server, but I'm having issues getting ULX to show my MOTD. I think I may have it in the wrong place.

ulx showMotd is set to 1, and I've put a copy of my MotD in every place that I think might possibly be the correct location, but nothing seems to work.

Would posting a copy of my server's current debuginfo help in any way?

Garry removed the cvar, the SVN version currently makes it's own motdfile cvar... so if you're not using SVN, just make your own motdfile cvar using lua (I believe that's the only change in SVN right now anyways).

That must be it, I wasn't using the SVN because when I used to use it, the server would stop letting people join sometimes randomly, and I'd have to reinstall ULX SVN completely to fix it...I'm sorry but I didn't write down the error, but that was before I had learned a few things about ULX anyway, I'm switching to the SVN version tonight and seeing if that fixes the MOTD issue, thanks Megiddo.

I've switched to SVN ULX, and the MotD works fine now, everything's smooth so far. If I have that problem again, I'll record it and post it along with a debuginfo dump if it's any help.

Thanks.
