Title: Chat.AddText, how would you like to see it used?
Post by: Megiddo on June 27, 2009, 09:14:37 PM
Garry added Chat.AddText (http://wiki.garrysmod.com/?title=Chat.AddText) a while back which lets you insert colored text into the chat area. How would you like to see this used in ULX, if at all? IE, when doing admin commands... we could make the admin name red, target name green... or change the color on the '/me' text... etc.

Seeing as how there are many different versions of scoreboards, both SUI based, and game mode based, that display 'team' colors both for admin level and team level... I'd love to see differences in displayed names on ULX actions.
Example;
<admin "team" color; name> performed color action on <recepient team color:name>
I see this as using some default colors from standard Gmod scoreboards (Green  I think for admins, blue for non-admins).
If team colors had been changed, ULX would detect that and use those.
User ability to override the two above would be nice.
New server.ini variables maybe?
ulx colorchatmode = 0 off, 1= on, using team colors from Gmod standard scoreboard or 3rd party(SUI/UTeam,etc), 2=on, using colors forced in other variables.
Not sure fully where to go for 'other variables', but perhaps;
"ulx colorchatperformer" = Person performing action
"ulx colorchataction" = color of verb/action
"ulx colorchatrecepient" = color of recepients

ULX error messages should be more stand out too. Some tone of red in my mind.

Oh, and if you're going to do all that.. make it GUI ... I like seeing what colors the text is going to be... sliders with live update would be nice if possible.. perhaps a color chart with lines of text on a screen that update as I move the bar or chart... you've gained some experience with UTime on the color editing.. use it more :)

WOW, How did I miss this sorry Megiddo.

You know how I vote :)

Base colors on uteam and if not installed base on default group colors.

Off topic:
Would now be a good time to vote for uteam to be included in ULX/ULib :)

Cant wait to see what you do and good luck. ^_^
