Title: Persistent ULX commands?
Post by: Megiddo on August 26, 2009, 04:29:15 PM
Do you want ULX commands to be persistent? (IE, ulx ragdoll, jail, etc)

By persistent we mean that it holds true through player reconnects. The reason ULX has not done this up to this point is that it complicates the code a bit and that it seemed like a player that would reconnect to get out of punishment should get banned.

Option 2 is saying that if you specify ulx jail for 60 minutes, they'll be jailed that long even through reconnects. If no time is specified, they'll be jailed until they're released or reconnect.

I'm gonna go with option 2, not just because I suggested it lol, but because I think it makes the most sense, and doesn't add extra configuration from server owners. Usually I would go with make an option to set, but this way if admins want to jail someone and don't care if they rejoin, they can just use without timelimit, unjailing as they see fit. If an admin wants to keep someone in jail even through reconnects, they can specify an extremely long timelimit, then unjail whenever they want to.

I went with 2 also. It just seems like a nice enhancement, even with the extra bits involved.
I'm one that would rather ban on return if someone didn't start behaving, but I don't want someone getting out of jail either if others aren't that strict.

I'd also strongly recommend, if not thought out already,
1) Saving of player coordinates and reconnect respawn to those coordinates (We don't want normal spawn points jammed up)
2) Some sort of visible timer to the player while time limit punished.

One thing to consider... and more conversation from the public may help decide this (the suggestion post that was made may be a good start?), if set for a time... will time that the player isn't connected to the server count?
My opinion on this is no... If I jail them 5 minutes, I don't want them leaving in 2, coming back in 2 and only having 1 minute of punishment left.
Either way, the timer needs to start counting once they spawn into the original spot...not when they connect to the server.

I'm a strict disciplinarian...can ya tell?

There's some fun possibilities for making persistent commands with the new command system we're setting up, so it's better to throw this idea in now than later. :)
