From what I hear, Garry is going to release some big updates soon. The DarkRP dev, Falco, is already preparing for it because apparently it will re-write some stuff that is pretty important. Just wondering if Ulysses was getting ready for it too!

We're waiting on Garry to get us a beta key. :)

Garry, dont update, just fix whats broke then leave it aloneeeeeeeeee :-X

While I certainly can see why you might feel this way, I have to disagree with this statement.
If something is not progressing then it is regressing.
I know (first hand) that it is very annoying and hard for the developers of mods and gamemodes to keep up with frequent and large changes to the game, but Garry can't and he shouldn't let that stop him from making those changes. It's something we all knew we were getting in to when we started making mods for this game.
-
I love the updates. It may take some time for people to fix any problems it may cause, but it's usually worth it in the long run.

Honestly, besides the cooler start menu, I haven't seen any positive improvements with updates. Of course I could be overlooking something.
The mods have really taken over the game. It's nice to have dedicated devs to work on the mods and fix them whenever the is an update. What would Garrysmod be without all the cool mods? :D
-
Most updates are engine updates or fixes in the code. He hasn't added a lot of new features recently because the game has been out for so long that there aren't really a lot of new features to add. Also one thing that we need to remember is that GMod runs on another game's engine. If they make a change to the engine that breaks or knocks something off with GMod, Garry has to fix GMod to work correctly with the new updates to the game engine.
There is no doubt in my mind that GMod would be 1000x better if he had developed and maintained his own game engine, but then the game wouldn't be as robust as something like that takes more than a one man team.

All I've seen is each update ruining something for OSX, and then the issues being completely ignored. Updates are my worst enemy.
OSX gmod worked best the week it was released, and only got worse after that.

Probably because he doesn't test it on OSX anymore. :)
-
ooooh you OSX haters ;P
-
Uh, I can attest 100% Megiddo is NOT an OSX hater.
If it weren't for the variety of games and development he does on Winblows, he'd probably be OSX and other *nix systems 100%.
Alas, our jobs, and darn hobbies, don't always allow for it.
-
Actually I don't own any Windows boxes anymore. 100% OSX now. I got tired of lugging around big ugly machines. :)
C# development is the only real reason I need Windows these days, and Visual Studios runs fine in a VM. As far as Windows games, I don't have time for that anyways!

Visual Studios runs fine in a VM.
Still, not 100% :P
Close, but not 100%.
-
I'm not sure a VM counts Jam... That'd be like me playing on an SNES emulator and then claiming to not use windows exclusively.
-
That's what I'm saying MrP.
Close, no cigar for Meg (or favorite anime movie of his choice since cigars are passe).
-
Oh I was unaware of that! What do you own Megiddo?
Regardless, you all know I was joking there, I hope ;D
I've had bad luck with VMs, personally. Both on Mac and Linux, but then again, I'm usually trying to run crazy graphics type programs that utilize things like Direct X.

I have a 2011 15" MacBook Pro. Switched out some of the parts myself so it has 8 GB RAM and I replaced the optical drive with an SSD.
I've been running some games in Parallels with no issues. :)

Stickly Man and I both have the gmod beta now, so we'll get to work on making ULX compatible! :)
-
Finally got time to test it in the new beta, and spent an hour tracking a problem down to the fact that usermessages are broken right now. X|
-
it's a fact that usermessages are usually broken
There, fixed that for you.
Is there a beta bug tracker so beta testers can post such known items?
And if so, does Garry actually pay attention to it?
I'd post either way if the bug wasn't already listed there, but, it just seems too many times big things like this make it into production Gmod.
-
I saw reference to it on the beta forums, and Garry at least acknowledged that the first half of the problem existed and would be fixed soon. Hopefully the second part gets fixed at the same time. If not, I'll create another bug report next update.
