I just noticed the following on the Gmod forums and i was wondering if it was a ripoff of Ubans and if not, is it safe to use (not virus'd up):

Not a rip off at all.

Author decided to go 'public-any-server-who-cares-to-run-his-mod' ban system, over UBan's 'private-among-those-who-know-the-db-info' system.
No idea if it's safe

The one linked in the original post doesn't use a public system. It only uses servers connected to the database that you have to set up yourself. I am not familiar with UBan but it seems that this one is just a little more feature filled.

Ah ok, just wanted to make sure. The guy has a really low post count on the gmod forums and i dont generally trust people with low post counts (unless they have an official role) when they release something.
-
I can understand that, but it isn't always the case.
For instance, I have been a member on Facepunch since 2005 or so and my post count is under 30 or so. I only post on facepunch when I have a release or a reply to a question in a release thread I created. I don't typically lurk on Facepunch.

I wouldn't even consider what I do 'lurking'.
"Avoid when possible" now maybe?
Before I joined Team Ulysses, I lurked there.
When I joined Team Ulysses, I participated there.
Once I realized just how crazy some of the admins, if not the people that actively participate there are, I visit only when necessary.
Kind of like when I viewed the above linked post.
I know Stick and Meg make our releases there too, and I should probably help.
I don't, because I hope the users of our product are intelligent enough to come here instead.

You're both on the ULX team though, so that makes up for a lot.

Right, but it's just as an example. You can't judge based solely by post count. :)

you can judge based on post count but you should use this information to investigate ;D

Between receiving two permabans and the general stupidity of FP'ers, I try to avoid it as much as possible as well.
Thanks for the report, even though it's legitimate in this case.
