Ok- I want my time back.
Both the past 2-3 hours last night and this morning I spent troubleshooting;
And the next 1-2 hours I'm going to spend moving custom maps, sounds and models.
(Why so slow moving? Because I'm going to take my time..my original location contained some old stuff mixed with less new stuff, now I have to find it all)
Last night, I joined G4P's community server and saw errors.
Asked around to find out what model packs I was missing. As expected, Wire was one..found out Sprops and ACF were others.
I went online, got the appropriate latest repos' of them, put them in my steam/steamapps/<username>/garrysmod/garrysmod/addons folder.
Fire up Gmod, join the server. Still nothing.
Spend the next while troubleshooting.
Look like a noob to the G4p community.
Decide after some hours to sleep on it.
Get up this morning, start with a 'smaller' issue I'd noticed last night. Startup of Gmod was indicating to me that gmDoom was missing a iwad file I "knew" I had in the proper Gmod folder.
I go to the workshop to see if anyone else had reported the issue - well, yep. Up front and center in the main release of gmDoom it says, after the install instructions,
"If you decided to skip the above steps and open the garrysmod/garrysmod/ folder yourself, be aware that the path moved on June 5th, 2013. Follow the above steps so you don't use an old path!"
TLDR-
Some higher power that be decided to waste my time by moving install location of Gmod.
It's possible your location may be different, but for me, Gmod is now in Steam/steamapps/common/GarrysMod/garrysmod/
-
Basically any SteamPipe game has been moved to the SteamApps/common/gamename folder now. Not entirely sure why it had to be moved from "username" to "common", but it just happened.
-
SteamPipe gets yet another user. ;)
-
It's about to lose another user for them too.
I tried using the wheels tool in Gmod. Says my keypad 4 and 7 keys are 'gm_special', but, oddly enough, they don't work.
*sigh*
Crap like this is one of many reasons I stopped playing Gmod.
Whack a mole.
-
I'm not quite sure why, but my gmod folder never moved to common. Also, we already knew you were a noob, so no worries there. :D
-
Whew.
How do I stick stuff together again?
-
Well.. first you have to download the 'stick stuff together' addon. Then to make it work, it requires the 'stick it together and other things library and extensions pack addon'. All of that requires a 2GB model pack.
All of which can be found on the workshop, but none of it works.
Good Luck!
-
Do you have an SVN link?
Can you zip it for me?
;)
-
There is no SVN. Only the 13 different copies on workshop all uploaded by different people, and all slightly different.
-
Thanks anyway.
You could have saved med the trouble had you just given me a URL of the best/
My friend told me about this awesome weld tool. He says it's part of Gmod.
I think I'll use it instead. I'd hate to have to test to find out which one of the "stick stuff together" mods work and which is best of those 13.
-
Ah, the weld tool is pretty cool... :o
On a serious note: I just found out yesterday that easy weld is built into the standard weld tool now (right click). Well I'll be...
-
Yeah, i was noticing the red 'dot' on model points even using the wheel tool, which is when I figured out my gmod "number keys for wheel control" was broken (+gm_special, -gm_special, unknown command).
