Title: WEBSITE ERROR: While searching the forums
Post by: Bite That Apple on May 13, 2015, 02:09:32 PM
I keep getting this error when trying to search at all, or do anything that involves searching. I can't search the forums, and JamminR will go a-wol if people ask questions without searching, but they can't!!1 :(

No, seriously though, I can't search forums.

Yeah, search broke a while ago. :(

You can use Google to search the forums though:
Google has us pretty well indexed.
Use "+site:forums.ulyssesmod.net" in your google search along with whatever you're looking for.
Here, this will get you started - https://www.google.com/?gws_rd=ssl#q=%2Bsite:forums.ulyssesmod.net (https://www.google.com/?gws_rd=ssl#q=%2Bsite:forums.ulyssesmod.net)
Type your words after that.
There's another topic about this here: http://forums.ulyssesmod.net/index.php/topic,8472.0.html (http://forums.ulyssesmod.net/index.php/topic,8472.0.html)

Just shows how much I play here.

To be honest, I didn't even know ulx team even updated SMF, I legit thought they were using decade old versions of it, because this thing never changes. I just wish they used at least a custom theme, because this one is getting boring.

1. Search isn't broken. We disabled it. *GASP*
2. We disabled it because there is a bug in SMF that indexes and searches forums that you don't have access to. The searching person wouldn't be able to go into the thread, but they could see the thread subject and the first few sentences from it.
3. Megiddo and I have spent some time trying to fix it, but no matter what we try it keeps bugging.
4. We ARE updated to the most recent version of SMF.

Last word from Megiddo on this issue is that he is going to try a clean installation of SMF and then restore the database to it instead of doing the incremental updates like we have been doing over the years. Something in an update might be broken that isn't in a clean installation.

I've tested SMF with a clean installation and this bug doesn't occur, so something is causing it on our installation.

I've tried disabling all of our plugins, but that doesn't help.

As JamminR posted in an above post, you can still search using Google and a little bit of google query magic.
We're working on the issue as we have time, and hope to bring the search feature back to the forum soon.

Sorry for the inconvenience and thanks.

P.S. Also, if you haven't noticed... JamminR has been a little nicer to people who ask questions recently. ;)

Yeah, I hadn't be aware of this, thus why I made the thread. I didn't entirely know you could properly search this website using google, but thank you for the heads up. As for JamminR being a little nicer, it was more of sarcastic, but I get your point.

Google's constantly indexing us, as shown in the "who's online".
