Title: Linksys WRT54GL
Post by: atomicspark on June 12, 2007, 10:16:50 PM
I desperately need a new router. My current one, Netgear FVS114, fails to not lock up less than three times a day. I have tried resolving this issue by changing firmwares, MTUs, and settings. Netgear support seems to have given up on me to. I think it's time for a new router. I did a quick search on Newegg to see what the highest rated router was and it turned out to be the Linksys WRT54GL. It has 3x Winner of Customer Choice Award - Wireless Routers. I also got this recommendation from a friend, who also pointed me to the open-source firmware website www.dd-wrt.com. So I'm asking you, have you heard of this? What do you think? Do you know anybody that has one? Thanks!

Hey, I told you about DD-WRT. And yes, I'd do that if I were you.

Though I don't know anyone with that particular model, I too have seen/read great things.

I use a Linux based Asus.
(Unfortunately, not compatible with known open source firmwares)

It has been a rock solid performer for me since I got it 2 months ago.
Has never locked up like others do when multiple connections are made to it (P2P traffic, etc).
The speeds I get, at least compared to my old one, are great.
