Allow Players to Choose their own Groups
« on: December 05, 2021, 09:48:10 PM »
Is there a way to allow players to select their own groups? As opposed to auto-promote or auto assign. For example a player would load in and be able to choose group A or B, and then be put in their chosen group.

This is very much outside the original scope of what ULX was made to do. You could do this with a module, but there is nothing like this built into ULX by default.

Alright so my scope of lua is pretty narrow, how would I go about this?

To be clear, do you mean "Team" selection??
In gmod, groups are role based and meant for, majority of the time, administrative/server commands (kick/ban/access control/etc).
Teams are intended for game/multiplayer differentiation, perhaps control what weapons they can use, their goal depending on parameters of the game mode.

Though ULX also isn't intended for team selection, and it only provides a 'team color' selection based on group assignment using UTeam in Sandbox gamemode (where teams don't normally count for any difference), there are many gamemodes and mods for them that use teams.
