"Safe" Gmod server settings
« on: April 05, 2006, 08:31:51 PM »
Well, I finally found a willing Gmod host and he's been a really nice guy. However, Gmod keeps crashing and is most likely disrupting other servers on my box.

What are some "safe" settings I can implement into my dedicated server in order to minimize crashing?

I already have Ragdolls and NPCs set at 0.

Any other things I can do?

Thanks.

You'd definately want to talk to personaljihad, I'll see if he's on.

well one thing I always did was run the server from a batch file that put it under 'high priority' on the computer which (as I saw it) increased performance. I also ran a program that boosted server FPS like crazy. Sorry, But I don't have any of those as I reformatted, thought the high priority should be easy to find.

Appreciate your response (its very rarely I find people that reply quickly with helpful responses ^^)

However, this is a rented server with multiple other servers on the same box, so I cannot use any utilities like this. It must be ingame settings which help to prevent activities and situations which will lead to a server crash.

Which would also mean it's on linux, which would mean that it doesn't have the windows problem... and don't forget who told you how to fix that problem GD  ;)

It's a windows box XD Just needed some things like prop limitations, etc to prevent those crashes from occuring.

Sigh.. went down twice in two hours.. getting to the point where I dont even want to have it up................ what can I limit / turn off to stop the crashing?

Itd help to know the reason of the crash. (Overload? spam? too cpu-consuming?)

Is there a way to view an accurate log of the proceedings a few minutes before the aforementioned crashes happen? That could provide a crucial role in the diagnosis of the problem.

And furthermore, is there a way to "tie" entities to a player so when they leave the objects disappear with them? I had a racist person come into the server while I was gone and draw swatsikas and other racist crap with rails all over.. had racist sayings written and was lagging out the server. Disturbing to say the least.
