Any prop protection suggestions?
« on: February 23, 2007, 07:11:49 PM »
i got ulx to work on my server fine, but theres a couple things i need help with.
i want to know if theres anyway i can get hunts mod to fully work with it, only certain commands work.
and how to COMPLETELY fix prop protection, when i spawn a prop its mine nobody can touch it but they can still delete it.
same as anyone else spawning a prop it can still be deleted but not moved by phys gun unless its them or me cuz im admin.
same thing when i spawn a prop and duplicate it, i have to go back to each dupe and click on it to make it mine.

can i fix these issues? >:(

look throug hunt's mod for any CanTool hooks that are returning true. Beyond that, Hunt's mod is (obviously) not a Ulysses Team project, and though we strive to be comptible with everything, we can't maintain everyone else's projects.

Prop protection is a part of hunts mod

One major reason for ULX having no prop protection because at ULX v3's time of release for gm10, there were about 4 other Prop protect mods/scripts out there.
All of which fought each other.

Not the only reason mind you, but one major one.

Please don't make a new thread on the same topic while your other is still alive.

You said in the other thread that you had Hunt's Mod. The prop protection in Hunt's Mod works AFAIK, you just have to fix the CanTool hook so it doesn't break other scripts (remove any "return true"). If you want a different prop protector then I recomend Chaussette's http://forums.facepunchstudios.com/showthread.php?t=268866.

Also, ULX is supposed to work with othere stuff. We at Ulysses strive for compatability with other scripts. However, as I stated in the other thread, we cannot be responsible for maintaining other people's projects. Your other post appeared, at least to me, as though you were asking how to _fix_ Hunt's Mod.

Edit: merged the threads.

Virus,
I've used an early version of Conna's PropDefender, v1.9x something, with no problems and ULX.
(Though I believe Conna has released a newer version, I've not used it or tested it)
After viewing Spbogie's suggestion (Chaussette's), I too will probably look into using that, as I believe I'd prefer its features.

I don't know where you get the idea that ULX isn't supposed to work with other stuff. We've never stated that, and have actually tracked down and corrected issues (within our code) that conflicted with other mods.
Not only have many of Ulysses Team members hosted servers that have many other addons and mods written by others, many of us have played on servers that run ULX and other mods in combination.

Ah ok.
If you mean other mods, well, there are some I wish worked better, but have stopped using and watched from afar, never to see updated again.

If you meant ULX, well, I'm proud to say we're one of the most pro-active 'make sure it improves/things get fixed' Gmod Lua groups around.
Though one of our biggest, oldest reported issues (#20, reported 1/07/2007) affected many, we believe we have it squashed.

And to beat all, we're 99% sure it was another addon causing it. :)

We can't stress to the ULX community enough, if you find a problem (in ULib or ULX), please report it at our Bug Tracker. http://www.ulyssesmod.net/bugs
If it is something within our control, there is a good chance it will be corrected in a future release.

Well JamminR i must thank you for recommending conna's to me IT WORKS AWSOME. i had no problem with it what so ever, though options on it are limited. i have tryed Chaussette's, unfortunatly it made me wanna kill myself and smash my computer. the prop protection did work somewhat but the addmin settings menu you see in his screen shot DID NOT show up for me. all i got was the friends part, which is for teaming and sharing props.  even as myself set as superadmin i couldnt get the addmin settings to show up for me or other admins on my server. and without the admin setting people spam your server and your in trouble AND there are some props that even the owner cant delete becouse it will tell you this thing belongs to everyone. (ex. npc spawner plateform), i disabled that with ulx.

So thank again JamminR for the suggestion.

if you have figured out how to use Chaussette's please tell me.

i wish to keep this post active incase better prop protecters come out, WE COULD DISCUSS THEM HERE!

For Chaussette's admin pannels to work you will need to add your users to garry's user file /settings/users.txt, I also recomend disabling ULib's importing of the default users if you already have them set up using ULib's user file. This can be done by changing the variable ULib.UCL_LOAD_DEFAULT to false in /ULib/shared/defines.lua.
