ULX Banned On Join
« on: July 08, 2017, 05:55:52 AM »
I haven't been on GMod in a few months so today I decided to start up my server and play a little (my server is sandbox btw). Everything seemed normal until I joined and was greeted with a ban message from ULX. This happens every time I try to join even after I restarted my server. I've tried clearing the bans.txt file but it just happens again. I have no idea what to do and it would be greatly appreciated if someone could help me out.

Thanks.

Edit: Forgot to include the ban message. Here:

Disconnect:
-------===== [ BANNED ] =====-------

---= Reason =---
Hacked by Hackerman!

---= Time Left =---
(Permaban)
.

Again, thanks for any help.

In addition to modifying/removing your bans.txt file, you should also modify/remove your server's cfg/banned_users.cfg file, as that's where the source engine saves all bans (and we rely on that system).

You may want to do some digging to find out what caused you to be banned in the first place. If you're running a dedicated server with RCON, make sure you haven't stored your rcon_password in any server config files (always specify the password in command line arguments). Also double check your installed addons- it's very common to find various types of "backdoors" hidden in the code that can allow other users to gain access to your server, or do other things:

Hope this helps!

Thanks for your help! I'm pretty sure my issue was caused by a backdoor in one of my addons so now I can try to fix it  :D.
