gag.. anomoly.. maybe a bug?
« on: September 15, 2007, 10:09:47 PM »
I usually gag all of my players to prevent ping issues when everyone wants to talk a lot.. which isn't a huge deal because I offer ventrilo service to my users which runs on a different server.

Here is what happened..

I did !gag <all>

Player was still able to speak over his microphone?!

I tried to gag him individually.

Still.. didn't work.. he could talk still.

I thought maybe it was the user group he was in.. so I demoted one of my members to test that theory.. nope...

No one else could talk.. so it wasn't a broken command.. just didn't work on that one guy..

The echo said it was gaggin him... I have no idea why he could still talk.

Anyone seen this before? or know what causes it?

There's a way to circumvent gag (garry has not implemented any way to stop this exploit). Not many people know about it... can always just threaten them if they do try it.

I think I know the workaround Meg is talking about.
Saw something of it in the way in which I implimented gag.
Won't mention in public.
I'll dig deeper when I have time to see if I can gag the workaround. There might be a way.

Oh, one more thing...zakap, if you don't want speach at all, use "sv_voiceenable 0" in your server.cfg

I didn't know there was a command to disable it completely. This could be useful. Thanks.

Zakap, all,
I've tweaked gag in revision 93 of ULX SVN. Though not fully tested, it now stops the (not so) 'secret' way around I believe your person was using.
Let me know if there are any more problems. (Though zakap, you're probably using sv_voiceenable 0 now aren't you :P )
