Ban Lag?
« on: October 09, 2013, 04:30:48 PM »
On my server we have quite a large ban file and as time progresses and bans add up the process of banning someone has become longer.  Currently the whole server will show a disconnect warning to all users for about 2 seconds whenever a ban is placed.  The list is over 7000 IDs long to give you an idea of the amount of data in it.

Has any else seen this happening on their server?
Any idea on how to reduce or stop it?  :-[

Can you send your bans file to me? My email is listed on the ulyessmod.net homepage. Thanks.

Just a question along these lines. I have 8 servers using ULX/ULIB and I also have really large ban files. Is there a limit on how big those files can get before it breaks ULIB?

There is no technical limit, but of course larger files take longer to parse.

I corrected the issue by deleted the ULX ban list; then it was recreated automatically with only the SteamIDs.  I just refer to a backed up copy of the file for the information when needed.

That works. We're probably going to tackle moving the bans over to a DB the next time Stickly Man and I have a coding session, but finding time between the two of us is an issue. :)

OT, if you are still checking this forum, has this continued to work for you? Have you seen lag significantly reduced?
