Cannot properly change my MOTD
« on: February 14, 2014, 03:45:00 PM »
I found that I have a ulx_motd.txt file within GMroot/data folder, so I edited it to my own needs. Well the problem is that ULX rewrites it every time, so I changed the thing to be read-only. Well the problem is that I see this MOTD on every server I join from now on. I even tried putting it into the garrysmod folder and unchecking the read only from that one, but now I have a "http://www.l4d.com/l4d2_servermessage/" as my MOTD.

Is changing the read only /data motd textfile the correct way to change it? And the other servers' MOTDs being just a side effect, which everyone else has, because the server doesn't have it's properly defined MOTD or something?

ulx_motd.txt should be in the garrysmod root. ULX does not write out a motd.txt file except for client-side caching.

So, basically, you just prevented every server from writing their motd file.

So what now? Like I said, after putting it into the Garrysmod root and un-write-onlying the one inside Data, ULX seemed to prefer that one (which changed to the L4D webpage, it was CSS earlier I think)

What motd? On your server? From what I can tell, you're editing the motd on you pc, and for what reason?

The server uses the one from the garrysmod root and downloads it to the clients in the data folder. You're overcomplicating this.

How? I am only saying that my server uses the one inside the data folder, what is complicated on that? My motdfile inside config.txt is set to ulx_motd.txt

The one in the data folder is used by the client, not the server. What are the other clients seeing?

It's quite possible, because you're running a listen server, that you won't see the motd created by your own server.
Your other users should get whatever you have in gmod root though.
While server is shut down, you could try deleting the one in your gmod/data folder.
