Karma, like on reddit, is your reputation on the forums. The more you have, the more people have approved of, or "complimented" you on, your behavior. The less you have, the more people have disapproved of, or "complaibed" about your behavior.

Having negative (or a low amount after a long time) means the other forum members are generally unhappy with the content or tone of your posts. Try doing a little searching before asking lots of questions, make sure you spell out words, and use good grammar.

I often mark Complain when people don't use the resources already available to them to answer questions.
Example, going to the "help" link for the forum, clicking features, and searching for the word "karma" quite easily found this
http://wiki.simplemachines.org/smf/Karma

One of our biggest pet peeves in this community is when people ask questions that show they didn't use the search or other already available resources, and instead went straight to "new topic" and asked a question already answered.

Each of us individually have others, and you've apparently been meeting many of them.
