Changes not saving

I am having an issue where if someone is moved into a different rank or banned it does not save and after a reboot there back as user or unbanned

Off the top of my head it sounds like maybe your server doesn't have write permissions to the data directory.
Unless someone else has seen this particular bug.

When you write someone to a new group, it should save the users.txt file right then and there. The only other thing that could cause this are corrupt user files.



Try the following:
Browse to your garrysmod/data/folder and rename your users.txt file to users(backup).txt and your bans.txt to bans(backup).txt.
Restart your gmod server and it will generate new copies of these files.
Try adding someone to a group and restarting your server to see if the changes stay.

No I still have to unban myself in the console after a reboot

I Have This Issue On My Server. I Promote Someone Reboot The Server Then Their User
Or If I Log Backon The Server A User Gets Added To A Rank With No Trace Of It In The Consle

Can confirm this issue as well. If i rank some one up to member from user it and the map changes they are back to user again. (rank written in all lowercase) .

When a user joins after the map change or server reboot the messages in chat is "{user} removed all access rights from {user}" (the user is in this case the same name)

(I can not confirm this with bans since I use sourcebans and the ulx sourcebans module)

As far as i am aware you need to have it Inherit it from something you cant leave it blank. there are just some extra thing to a member like !votekick.

Yeah ik right its getting annoying for me because sometimes i wont have my browser open and i just want to join my gmod server but because its set to auto reboot at 00:00 ( when im asleep) i will try and join and it will say that im banned then i have to mess about opening the browser and unban myself

Its just default rank + extra's (saves me from clicking  allot more boxes)
So member rank is everything from user + everything i add more.
Donator rank is member rank (also user) + everything i add.

I did all the super admins trough the file. they work fine. I do all my admins trough sourcebans.(they also do not get demoted for as fas as I tested, also did not rank anyone to admin while i tested))
even if my admind would get demoted they get ranked up again after a bit by sourcebans.

Inheriting from user doesn't mean it's the same as user.  It means it starts, by default, with the same permissions as user, and additional permissions can be configured for it. Typically any new group would be inherited from user (or from a group that ultimately inherits from user).

No I Was Asking If He Added To The Rank Insted of Leave It Like A User

I have had this problem for quite a while too. I have to hardcode the promotion in users.txt for the rank to stick after a restart.

If your changes aren't saving, double check to make sure the server has write permissions to the data folder.
