Favorite Dubstep to listen to?
« on: March 24, 2012, 05:40:21 PM »
Here are some of my favorite dubstep songs currently:

Avicii 'Levels' Skrillex Remix [FULL]
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MITA4FhVjDc

Halo Reach Out (Dubstep Remix)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2rN4Vo_W1g8

What are you favorite dubstep songs? If you don't have one, what's your favorite song in general?

My taste for dubstep is particular. I've never met a dubstep song I like by itself.
There has to be a dance performance (solo or group), or just really cool video, to go along with it for me to really like it.
Names to look for that I like (and for some reason, remember) - Remote Kontrol (group), iGlide, Chibi, Nonstop.

I'd have to say NonStop is one of my favorite 'artistic' performers.
His videos combine nice backgrounds, nice dubstepping, with good music.
See http://www.youtube.com/user/WHZGUD2?feature=watch for some of his stuff.

For slow stuff, Chibi is my favorite. I think his (scoliosis?) ailment that affects his ability to raise his arms above certain height help in some respects (slower songs), but not others (faster songs seemingly).

So, yeah, nonstop is my favorite performer for now. I don't really have a favorite song.
oh, and as for videos involving dubstep, I really do like artistic impresion.

I take all my dance/electronic/etc music recommendations from Stickly Man, we seem to have similar taste, mostly.

I'm not a huge fan of dubstep as I find it too distracting while I'm working. But, but some of my favorite dance songs are as follows:
Mansion by Gareth Emery
Illmerica by Wolfgang Gartner

Indeed, he and I have done major 'hey what about this one' chats back and forth at times.
We all have similar tastes while doing work needing no distraction
(research/coding/papers/data tracing)

find it too distracting while I'm working
Agreed, its why I do like it only if watching perfomances/videos. Can't do it for 'background' tasking.

Sounds like it's time for me to dump links!

As with others here, I'm not a fan of what people refer to as "true dubstep", but I like dubstep elements infused in other genres (particularly Electro House). In fact, most of Skrillex is a blend of Electro House/Dubstep. Anywho, a small sample of songs I like!:

Dubstep/Electro House:
Porter Robinson - Spitfire (Kill the Noise Remix)  Epic dirty fat synths!
BT & Adam K - Tomahawk  All sorts of genre mashing goin on here.
Mord Fustang - A New World  Holy crap Mord Fustang is all sorts of awesome!
Mord Fustang - Lick the Rainbow  Less dubsteppy, but again, Mord Fustang is all sorts of awesome. 'nuff said.
Asking Alexandria - A lesson Never Learned (Celldweller Remix)  .. METALSTEP!!!
Motionless in White - Creatures (BEAST Remix by Celldweller)  .. DARKER METALSTEP! (Possibly has one of the, uh.. 'hardest'? drops I've ever heard)
Dada Life - Happy Violence  These guys are srsly insane, but srsly awesome. (Electro House only)

Vocal/Uplifitng Trance:
Lange feat. Emma Hewitt - Live Forever (Mat Zo Remix)  Mat Zo is probably king of "Uplifting Trance". What makes it uplifting? Probably being in a major key :P
Above & Beyond feat. Zoe Johnston - You Got to Go  This one keeps getting stuck in my head
Mark Eteson. feat Audry Gallagher - Breathe On My Own (Daniel Kandi Remix)  Vocal and uplifting!

Trance:
Aly & Fila vs Philippe El Sisi feat. Senadee - Without You (Nhato Remix)  WHO IS THIS NHATO AND WHERE DID HE COME FROM!?!
Bjorn Akesson - Painting Pyramids (Nhato Remix) AGAIN, WHERE DID HE COME FROM?! He has probably the best sound I've ever heard!
Ferry Corsten vs. Armin Van Buuren - Brute  This is one of the more popular trance tracks of 2011.
Super8 & Tab Feat Betsie Larkin – Good Times (Lange Remix)  Some of my most favorite songs were created or remixed by Lange. Great stuff!
Gareth Emery feat. Christina Novelli - Concrete Angel  Gareth Emery also has loads of good stuff I could list here.
Stoneface & Terminal - Leaving Earth  Another great trance group
Tritonal - Lifted (Feat. Cristina Soto)  Tritonal has some awesome trance, too! (Okay, I'm done with trance now)

Drum N' Bass:
Pendulum - Witchcraft  Pendulum is probably one of the more popular Drum N' Bass producers. Good stuff!
Pendulum - Self vs. Self (feat. In Flames)  Metal N' bass? METAL N' BASS!

Glitch Hop: ..?
Opiuo - Loist Moinal  Came across this song a while back, interesting genre, but insanely groovy beat!

Ambient/Experimental:
BT - Our Dark Garden  It's good to stop and meditate every so often, right? Definitely one of my favorite pieces.
BT - The Antikythera Mechanism  BT is a musical genius, and some of these pieces show off his talent. (You should check the rest of This Binary Universe album if you find it interesting. I would recommend listening to the music once before watching it with the visuals, but that's just me)

Okay holy crap I'm done now. I'm getting out of here before I find something else I forgot to add X|

a small sample

I also imagine more evil thoughts along the lines of "TWSS", but hey, this is a family forum.

If only the packet anomaly project I've been tracing at work fit your definition of small, my team and I would not be pulling our hair out over trying to find it among the 10+ device component path.

Some... other kind of genre... : http://youtu.be/dkSuxf39N_Q
I think this is "Trip Hop": http://youtu.be/2XmWVB2jbJo

Just my three cents.

What can I say? I take after my dad! (He's a math teacher) :P

And in all seriousness, I was originally going to post 3 or 4 songs.. Then I kept running into more I wanted to add :S

That is actually me. I don't know how or why I had another account, but apparently I discovered this website in it's infancy (30th registered member... :flex:) But had forgotten about it and when I came back registered a new account. I came across it while being bored and looking through the members list.

Anyway.. I digress..

I actually really enjoy dubstep but only if I have a good sound system to listen to it on. I can't enjoy it on my laptop with headphones. I need my car with my sub or even my desktop surround system isn't half bad.

I'll have to revisit this thread when I come home from Afghaniland and check some of these out.

haha yup!
I actually got really interested in her work, some very cool stuff. Watched a documentary, and found that she quit entirely after the synth came out and got popular. She felt it ruined the genre, and that electronic music should be done completely by hand.
